- Bio: Cyril J. Welp, 87, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, November 8, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at St. Henry's Catholic Church with Father Don Czapla officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service at St. Henry's Catholic Church. Cyril "Cy" Welp was born March 15, 1921, outside of Haverhill, the son of Edward and Teresa (Kopel) Welp. He grew up in the Haverhill area, graduating from Van Cleve. He married Aloah Solberg on November 22, 1952. Cy was a prominent area businessman and a longtime grain dealer in the Marshall County area, with grain elevators in Haverhill, Albion, and Liscomb. He was a member of St. Henry's Parish, Rotary, as well as a 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was heavily involved in national and state grain associations and on numerous boards including United Suppliers, National and Iowa Grain & Feed Associations, the Marshalltown Area Hospital and Commercial Bank. Cy was also a pilot and loved to fly. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Aloah of Marshalltown; five daughters and their families: Marcia (Tim) Shore, Ryan, Alli & Lindsay of Marshalltown; Cindy (Fred) VanSchepen, Ben & Drew of Waterloo; Brenda (Terry) Pageler, Eric, Elsa & Rachel of Lenexa, KS; Deb (Matt) Daniels, Maggie & Carter of Le Mars; and Renee (Frank) Heindel; Frank Jr., Joe & Nick of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his grandchildren, Abigail (Mike) Panoske and great-grandson Brylin; and BJ Clemens, all of Anamosa; his two sisters, Doris (Clete) Neuroth of Marshalltown and Audrey (Roman) Dankbar of Ames; his sister-in-law Gloria Welp of Newton, and numerous nieces and nephews.In death, he rejoins his parents, Edward & Teresa; two brothers, Virgil and Leon; and two daughters, Mary and Marlys. Memorials may be directed to St. Henry's Parish, the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
