    • Bio: Gerald John Stefka, age 76, died Friday, June 23, 2017.
    • He graduated from St. John Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School.
    • Jerry served with the United States Air Force during Vietnam.
    • He joined the Illinois State Police and graduated from the Academy, May 10, 1964 with Class 33.
    • Jerry was assigned as a trooper in District 4 Crestwood for 10 years prior to relocating to District 5 Joliet.
    • During his tenure, he worked patrol, accident investigation and truck inspections. In the mid-1980s, he transferred to a position with the Joliet Riverboat Gaming Office.
    • Jerry retired at the rank of Master Trooper on December 31, 1995. He was a member of the Illinois Troopers Lodge #41 Fraternal Order of Police.
    • He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Bill) Nelson; his grandchildren, Shawn Nelson and Josh Falk; his great-granddaughter Isabella Pitts; and his brother, David (Janice) Stefka.
    • Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (nee Gray) Stefka and his parents, John G. and Caroline F. (nee Stukel) Stefka.
    • Memorial Mass: Friday, June 30, 2017, St. Bernard Church, 13030 W. 143rd St, Homer Glen.
    • Interment Abraham Lincoln Cemetery.
    • Arrangements entrusted to the Richard J. Modell Funeral Home, Homer Glen, Illinois.
