- Bio: Dorothy Wickre, age 85, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Gary, SD passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019 at Elim Care and Rehab Center in Fargo, ND. Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Friday.
- Dorothy Ann (Mohling) Wickre was born on June 24, 1933 to Fred and Mathilda (Maschman) Mohling at the family farm in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. She attended country school through the 8th grade and then she attended and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. On March 29, 1953 she married the love of her life, Edward James Wickre, in Wessington Springs, SD. They had three children. She was a homemaker until the children were in school and then she started her career in the retail business. Upon retirement she enjoyed planting her spring flowers, sewing, crocheting, crafting and coffee with friends. She also kept very involved in the many activities of her grandchildren. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
- She moved to Fargo, ND in 2013 where she resided at One Oak Place. She had many friends there. After suffering another stroke in 2017 she went to Elim Rehab and Care Center to rehab but never returned home. She resided there until her death on April 22, 2019.
- She touched the lives of so many people and anybody that crossed her path loved her. She was a great friend to many. She was full of life, very feisty and had a great sense of humor. Dorothy had a love for sports, especially baseball and basketball. She enjoyed watching Duke and Nebraska sports as well as the Minnesota Twins and the Atlanta Braves. Considering the many health issues, she had, she never complained. She was a fighter and a very strong person. She was always there for you. She truly will be missed by many.
- She is lovingly remembered by her three children: Mark and his wife Suzanne, Neenah, WI, Jan and her husband Larry, Dilworth, MN, and Jim and his wife Stacy, Box Elder, SD; five grandchildren: Brittany (and her husband Steve), Brandon, Hannah, James and Bailey; two sisters: Alice Villbrandt and Phyllis Mohling of Wessington Springs; sister-in-law, Alma Mohling of Wessington Springs; as well as many nieces and nephews and other family members from Ed’s family.
- She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters; and brothers.
