CLEAR LAKE | Mildred Baker, 97, of Clear Lake, went to her Heavenly Father Friday, October 16, 2015, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
- She was born February 14, 1918, in Garner, Iowa. She attended school in Hanlontown and graduated from McIntire High School in 1936.
- Mildred married Donald Baker on February 22, 1941, at the home of Donald's parents in Ventura, Iowa. Mildred and Donald's first date was on the Fourth of July where they enjoyed the carnival in Clear Lake.
- Together they farmed in Ventura until 1946. They then moved to a farm north of Clear Lake and farmed there the rest of their lives.
- In her early years Mildred was a faithful member of Colonial Club, enjoyed reading Kitchen Klatter and Guidepost magazines, and tending to her very large vegetable garden. She took pride in canning hundreds of jars of her garden produce each year. In her later years, she became an Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.
- Mildred was preceded in death by parents Frank and Lilly (Pierce) Meter, her brother Charles, her sister Phyllis, and an infant daughter Doreen Marie.
- She is survived by her husband Donald Roger Baker; two sons, Wayne and Gene (Nancy) Baker, both of Clear lake; two grandchildren, Josh (Charity) Baker of Rockwell, Iowa, and Julia (Jacob) Hansen of Denver, Colorado, and three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Lily Baker of Rockwell and Eloise Hansen of Denver, CO.
