- Bio: Florence E. Hustel, 91, Sisseton, SD, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton. Florence E. Hustel was born November 12, 1921, at Nine Mile Lake in Marshall County, SD. She was the second oldest of 11 children born to Art and Ethel (Boneak) LaMoureaux. Florence lived on the farm until she finished the eighth grade. She then moved to Minnesota where she lived with an uncle and completed high school. After graduating high school, she worked at Munsingwear and Honeywell. She later moved back to the Lake City area. At a dance in Hillhead, Florence met the love of her life, Gene Hustel. She married Gene in New Effington. In April 1945, Gene was called to duty and Florence moved with him to Washington. After Gene’s discharge, they returned to the Veblen area where they farmed. Florence worked at the Greseth Café and Stavig Department store in Sisseton. They later both worked at Dakotah Quilts in Veblen. Gene passed away in January 2005. Florence then moved to Sisseton. In 2013 she became a resident of the Tekakwitha Living Center. Florence was active in Area 4 Nutrition and helped get the Veblen and Claire City nutrition programs going. She also served on the nutrition board.
- Survivors include her son, John; brothers, Dean LaMoureaux and Bryan LaMoureaux; and sisters, Lucy Pabuda and Ramona Henslee. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; brothers, Art Jr., Eugene, Russel, Jerome, Chester, and George.
