- Friends and neighbors of the Willey family in their little community northwest of Mohall, will greatly miss the presence of the dear old grandmother in their home. Mrs. Odland, Mrs. Willey's mother, had reached the ripe old age of 83 and had retained her faculties to a remarkable degree. Her capacity for making and holding friendships seemed never to have dimmed but rather strengthened with the length of years.
- Of such a character as hers, it is pleasant to remember that she leaves more than forty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, all of whom should inherit richly of her many good qualities. Such sturdy folk were not afraid to venture into new lands and exulted in conquering the wilderness.
- There's plenty of wilderness of other sorts left for her descendants to conquer, not new lands but new fields of thought and new enterprises in order that the good earth may continue to nourish the great population now seeking a living. Those pioneers did for themselves and their neighbors and had faith that their industry would be rewarded. It is fear that holds men in beaten tracks today, numbing their minds to the possibilities of usefulness that could be developed into productive and profitable work. The pioneer minds of today exult in doing the things needing to be done, fearless of whether the future will bring pay for it. Work, not pay, is still with us in plenty and when the work is done will come the edict, "The laborer is worthy of his hire."
- We all do honor to these North Dakota pioneers and our homage can best be shown by real work for the betterment of our own condition to others to improve it for us.
- In 1901, Mrs. Odland and her husband came to Stafford township after doing a good bit of pioneering in Iowa.
- Their homestead was situated very near the pretty little country cemetery in which both of them now are buried. The older settlers there remember with gratitude her life among them and there's truly no better epitaph to be written than, "I'm glad that I knew her!"
- Isabelle Tysver Odland, born near Streeter, Ill., January 18, 1850, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Willey, Mohall, N.D., June 17, 1933.
- At a very early age she united in marriage with Tom S. Odland, and together they pioneered in Iowa and North Dakota, homesteading in Stafford township, April 26, 1901.
- Eleven children were born to this union. Two died in infancy, and two in mature age, seven surviving them.
- Forty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and her brother Martin Lewis Tysver of Spokane., Wash., survive.
- Oldest daughter--Mrs. Mattie Heldridge of Sioux City, Iowa, the other children are Mrs. Nels Jondahl, Fullerton, CA; J.S. Odland , Moenessen, PA; Mrs. Lizzie Winney, Padroni, Col; Tom I. Odland, Los Angeles, CA; Mrs. Inez Willey, Mohall, S.D.; Mrs. Grace Leet, Tolley.
- Short Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mrs. Willey by Rev. Aal, after which family and close neighbors accompanied the remains to Stafford township where services were conducted. She was laid to rest there beside her husband.
