- Bio: Mrs. Barbara B. Ottum, 89, of Dresden, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 after a brief illness in Brunswick.
- She was born Aug. 24, 1915, in Brookline, Mass., daughter of Ernest and Adel McDonald Bragg. She attended Northeastern Business College.
- Mrs. Ottum was a model for Saks Fifth Avenue for eight years. She came to Maine in 1947 and worked at Maine Medical Center in ER Admissions for four years. She also volunteered in Children's Occupational Therapy. She worked as a veterinary assistant in Falmouth for three years. Barbara then worked with her husband, Dr. Alvin E. Ottum, at his busy OB/GYN practice at 148 State Street in Portland until his retirement in 1974.
- She and Dr. Ottum raised registered St. Bernard show dogs and German Shorthaired Pointers in Falmouth for 12 years.
- After Dr. Ottum's passing in 1974, she moved to Waco, Texas, to be near her daughter, Andrea Arnold. In Waco, she was a teacher's aide for pre-school at Lake Shore Baptist Church from 1974-1978. In 1978, she became an avid folk artist displaying her paintings at Gallery events throughout Central Texas.
- In 1993, she returned to Maine where she continued with her artwork until recently.
- She is survived by three sons, Alvin E. Ottum Jr. and his wife Cathy of Richmond, John W.G. Ottum and his wife Karen of Dresden and Eric M. Ottum and his wife Anne of Falmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Warren (Victoria) Wellman and her husband of Bedford, Texas, and Mrs. Alan J. (Andrea) Arnold and her husband of Dresden; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
