- Weir Swenson Rites Saturday
- Funeral services for Weir Swenson, 64, Mitchell, will be Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Dwayne F. Knight officiating.
- The body will lie in state Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Milliken Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church from noon until time of the service. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
- Mr. Swenson was born June 8, 1902, at Rankin, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Swenson and died May 17 at a Mitchell hospital. On October 16, 1929 he married Marie Warrick at Pipestone, Minnesota.
- Mr. Swenson had lived in Jerauld County and in Minnesota before moving to Mitchell in 1943. He had been employed by the George A. Hormel Company for 24 years. He had been a member of the South Dakota Federation of Labor and was past district vice president. He had been president and secretary of Local 91, UPWA, and an officer in the Affiliated Credit Union.
- Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Sherill Swenson, Pico-Rivers, California, Mrs. Shella Keyman, Sioux Falls, South Dakotavand Genelle Swenson, Mitchell, South Dakota; four sons, Dale, Phoenix, Arizona, and Lyle, Lowell and Paul, Mitchell, South Dakota.
- Also, six grandchildren; a brother, David, Wessington Springs, South Dakota and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Mespell, Binghamton, New York and Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Mitchell, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, and two sisters.
