- Bio: Arlette Ileen Harris, died peacefully at the Bowman Hospice Center of Rush Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 76 years, 6 months, and 25 days.Her funeral service was held Tuesday, June 14th, at First Baptist Church of Holly, Michigan with Dryer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held Friday, June 17th at the Bonilla Cemetery in Bonilla, South Dakota with Welter Funeral Home of Huron, SD in charge. Arlette was buried along side her parents and other family members. A celebration of her life was held July 8th at the First United Presbyterian church in Bonilla. Born on November 9, 1939, and raised near Bonilla, she was the youngest of six daughters. Arlette graduated from Bonilla High School in 1957. She married Jack G. Harris, Aug. 28, 1960, and they spent a wonderful 56 years together. The family lived in several towns in Michigan (Litchfield, Charlevoix and Holly) where Jack served as a pastor. Their retirement years were spent in several places: at their house on Houghton Lake, MI, and at their homes in Ormond-by-the-Sea, FL and Chicago, IL. Arlette, a gifted elementary school teacher for 38 years, ensured that every student left her class able to read. She was a deeply faithful woman who was a very active partner to Jack in many ministries in the churches where they truly served as a team, touching many lives with the love of Christ and giving of her time and efforts to those in need. She loved visual and musical arts (especially Broadway musicals), and she was an accomplished oil painter. Some of her favorite activities included camping, fishing, walking the beach, and visiting museums and zoos with her grandchildren. She lived life with joy.Arlette was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, LuVerne Peterson, Theone Marshall, Doris Scheibe, and Ruth Williams; and three brothers-in-law, Elwood Peterson, Lyle Marshall, and Merlyn Williams.She is survived by her husband, three children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, one sister, one brother-in-law, twenty Tollefson nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
