- Bio: Aloah (Solberg) Welp, 88, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018.Aloah was born on August 11, 1929 to Oscar and Minnie(Nordby)Solberg in Cylinder, Iowa living most of her childhood on a farm near Armstrong, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines after high school graduation where she obtained her Cosmetology training and licensure. It was at a dance in Des Moines where she met the love of her life, Cyril Welp. They married in 1952 making their first home in Haverhill, Iowa then moving to Marshalltown, Iowa. Aloah loved her family of origin and the family she created with Cy, with all of her heart. Holidays were made special with the Solberg clan. There was never a dull moment at the Welp household with 6 daughters, each with a little feisty Norwegian in their genes. Aloah was a wonderful cook, always with a delicious meal on the table for dinner. She loved entertaining friends and family and had a flare for fashion and decorating. She loved gardening, exercise,travel with her husband and family, the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes, and most recently spending time with her “Ember’s 4:00 PM Group”. Aloah loved her church family at St. Henry's Parish and was actively involved with St. Rita’s Study Club and The Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of PEO, Chapter LT. Aloah is survived by 5 of her daughters, Marcia Shore (Tim) and grandchildren Ryan, Allison, and Lindsay; Cindy VanSchepen (Fred) and grandchildren Benjamin and Andrew; Brenda Pageler (Terry) and grandchildren Eric, Elsa, and Rachel; Deb Daniels ( Matt) and grandchildren Maggie and Carter (Kristen) and great grandson Oaklin; Renee Heindel (Frank) and grandchildren Frank Jr., Joseph, and Nicholas. Marlys’s children, Abigail Panoske (Mike) of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and great grandchildren Brylin, Malena, and Vivienne and Brad Clemens (Amber) of Anamosa, Ia.. Sisters in law Delores Solberg (Gaylord) and Gloria Welp (Leon) plus countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril, daughters Mary and Marlys, her parents and siblings. Aloah, lover of all dogs, especially her own, would like memorial donations be made to the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League or her beloved church St. Henrys in lieu of flowers. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 29, 2018 at Saint Henry's Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation held one hour prior to the services.
