Walter Leonard Olson was born to John P. and Amelia (Dyrland) Olson. He spent his childhood on the Olson family farm in rural Newhall, Iowa. Walt was a cattle breeder and had traveled throughout the U. S. showing and judging cattle.
- He married Grace Ellen Helgeson April 5, 1941 in Norway, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Richard and James.
- Walt Olson died at the Marengo Memorial Hospital after a long illness on Wednesday at 9:55 p.m.
- He is survived by his wife; two sons, James and wife Cindy of Clatonia, Nebraska, and Richard and his wife Karen of Marengo, Iowa; four grandchildren, David, Jenny, Brian, and Chad; two brothers, Roy of Newhall and Herb of Center Point, Iowa; and one sister, Beatrice Boddicker of Newhall.
- Services were held Sunday, June 30, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church near Conroy where he had been a member for 30 years.
- Pallbearers were David Boddicker, Marvin Halvorson, Dick Ahrens, Terry Moore, Jim Jacobs, Stephen Ahrens, and Ron Halvorson.
