- Bio: Ann Marie Anderson Hager, 81, was born March 31, 1940 in Spokane Washington to Bert and Velma (Michel) Anderson. Ann passed away on January 21 at the Lisbon Hospital with her children at her bedside.
- She had 2 older siblings, Kenneth Anderson and Mervie Anderson Coulter. Her family returned to North Dakota in 1945 moving to Stirum where her mother was the postmistress and her father ran the gas station and garage. Ann graduated from Stirum High School in 1958-- one of the 3 members of the class. She started college at ND State College but transferred to Valley City State College earning her elementary education degree in 1962.
- While in college, she met her husband, Foster Ray Hager who she married in 1962 in Oakes ND. Their first home was in Lehr ND. During their lifetimes, Ann and Ray lived in many towns, Golden Valley, Fairmont, Finley, Warroad MN, Finley again, Cooperstown, Hebron, Mandan and Washburn. She was a resident at MaryHill Manor in Enderlin following the death of her husband in November.
- Ann was the mother to 2 children, LaurieBeth Hager and Daniel F Hager. She devoted herself to her family by designing special activities and encouraging her children to pursue their own interests and giving them "wings to fly". Ann returned to the workforce, first teaching a Vocational Education course which trained high school students to run a Childcare Center and later as the kindergarten teacher at Finley Sharon Public School. Ann's creative nature provided her kindergarteners with many songs and fun activities, the most memorable was Astro's Alphabet bag. She taught kindergarteners for 10 years and was proud of each of her students.
- Ann's passion was her handiwork with fabrics. Even as a teenager she was an award winning seamstress in 4H. Most clothing worn by her and her daughter was made on her sewing machine. When she retired, she became an amazingly talented quilter a passion that combined her artistic nature, her creativity with her sewing skills. She designed dozens and dozens of artisan quilts and wall hangings. Ann belonged to 3 Quilters Guilds, participated in quilting retreats in Medora, attended the Paduca KY Quilters Fest, and displayed her quilts at various Quilt Shows often receiving awards for her entries.
- Ann was a collector. She had a large hat pin collection and was a featured guest on the Antiques Road Show when it filmed in Bismarck. Ann loved hunting for additions to her special collections which included old fashion hats, fabric, Christmas ornaments, antique glassware, and her adorable porcelain Lucy Rigg Bears.
Ann's biggest adventures were the 2 European Trips she took with her sister and her cousins. Her happiest of times were spent laughing and doing crafting projects with her lifelong friend Arlene.
- Ann is survived by her 2 children, LaurieBeth Hager (Pete Pugliano) and Daniel (Sara) Hager and her only grandchild, Andrew Pugliano as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ray Hager, her parents Bert and Velma Anderson, her brother, Kenneth Anderson and her sister, Mervie Coulter.
- Due to the surge in COVID cases, celebration of life service will be held at a later date. She will be interred alongside her husband at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
