- Kathleen McGarry Bond, 82, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017, at her residence in Sandy Utah. She was born December 15, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT to James (Chauncy) McGarry and Florence Langford McGarry. She was the oldest and last surviving of 3 children, brother James and sister Margaret. Kathleen's husband of over 50 years preceded her in death in 2009. Survivors include her children Susan Huff, Michael, Stuart and Peggy Bond-Heath, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
- Kathleen was born to a second generation Irish father, James (Chauncey) McGarry and a 3rd generation English mother, Florence Langford McGarry. She was the oldest of 3 children, brother James and sister Margret. Her parents raised her in the Avenues of Salt Lake City, Utah.
- When Kathy started dating, her very protective father, a police officer for the Salt Lake City police department, scared off many prospective boyfriends. In 1953, Kathy met her future husband Don Lyman Bond and her father could not find anything he did not like about Don. In very short order, Chauncey felt Don was a great fit for his daughter and family. Kathy and Don got married in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 18th, 1954. They gave birth to 4 children, two girls and two boys. (in order, Susan, Mike, Stuart & Peggy).
- Kathy was attending University of Utah when she met Don and started her family. Her major was nursing, but her love was the arts. She joined the school Opera and dabbled in painting. She has always loved music and to sing. She became a choir director for her church for many decades. Kathy continued her painting using oils. She painted portraits of all her children in addition to some landscapes.
- From time to time, she entered the workforce to help with the cost of her growing family. She worked part time for a nursing home and later got her Real Estate license and started selling homes. She had a knack for selling homes and made many lifetime friends from her clients. She later got her broker's license and helped to start the Osmond Realty Company, (yes, Donnie and Marie's family venture).
- Her family grew and one by one left the nest starting families and careers of their own. She continued in Real Estate for over 30 years, only quitting after, Don, started getting ill in 2004. She spent the next 5 years taking care of Don, but after 52 years of marriage, Don passed away in April of 2009.
- Kathy and Don's family had continued to grow, and they now have 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, many of which were seen visiting her frequently and even by her side when she passed.
- Services will be held Tuesday, March 28 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr., SLC, UT 84106. Viewing at 12:30, Services at 2:00 followed by grave site services and a gathering.
