Gerald T. Johnson Sr., 72, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen, S.D.
- Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 7, 1937, at Minot, N.D., the son of Theodore "Ted" and Clara (Olsen) Johnson. He graduated from Douglas High School, Douglas, N.D. He married June Freelander on July 27, 1958. He farmed with his dad at Douglas until 1970. They moved to Kulm where they continued to farm. He invented and patented farm implements. He began manufacturing these inventions with his sons Jerry and Dean in December 1981 and Johnson Manufacturing was incorporated in 1982. He earned a private pilot's license in 1985. He served on the Kulm City Council for more 20 years and Kulm Airport Board for several years. He farmed until 1994 and worked at Johnson Manufacturing until his death.
- He married Glorraine Hansen on July 30, 2004. He was a member of Assembly of God Church, Kulm. He enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere two-cylinder tractors, flying and giving rides in his airplane.
- He is survived by his wife, Glorraine, Aberdeen, S.D.; four sons, Gerald "Jerry" T. Jr. and Dean (fiancee Rosa), both of Kulm, Kurt, Willmar, Minn., and Craig, West Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Wanda (Carey) Schlecht, Willmar; a step-son, Judd Hansen, Houston, Texas; two step-daughters, Julie (Clark) Haaland, Minneapolis, and Stacey Hansen, Wichita, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
- Services: 10:30 a.m. today, Assembly of God Church, Kulm.
Visitation: already held. Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Burial: Assembly of God Cemetery, Kulm.
