- Bio: John's father, Gunder Olsen, had a homestead in Friendship Township, west of Clarkfield, Minn. Obituary from Montevideo News, 17 Apr 1919: “Died, at the home of his son, L. B. Olson, Tuesday night, April 15, John G. Olson, aged 81 years, 6 months and 28 days. He had been ill for about a year, but was able to be around until last February, since which time he failed fast.
“Deceased was born in Skudenes, Norway, September 17, 1837. He came to this country in 1868, going to Decorah, Iowa, and coming to Stony Run, Yellow Medicine county, the following year. In 1870, he was married to Miss Christina Blix of Wegdahl, whose parents came here in 1867. Ten years ago last fall, they moved to Montevideo, since which time they have made their home with their son, Louis.
“Besides his widow, he leaves one son and two daughters, Louis, Mrs. Sivert Jacobson of Findley, N. D., and Mrs. N. F. Aanes of Montevideo; also three sisters, Mrs. Anna Gunderson of Chicago, Mrs. Melina [sic] Peterson of St. Hilaire, and Mrs. Mary Blix of Duluth.
“The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Free church, Rev. Ludvig Pedersen officiating.”
