- Bio: Leonard Godel Obituary
He was born on April 14, 1927, in Battle Lake, the son of Leonard Louis and Mary Kathryn (Kays) Godel. He grew up on a farm on Silver Lake, north of Battle Lake. He attended Battle Lake High School.
- He met Marian Sandahl while she was working in Battle Lake and Fergus Falls and they were united in marriage at the United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls on Aug. 26, 1950. Wilton began employment with Litchfield Produce in Battle Lake in the spring of 1950. He played amateur baseball for the Everts Township team for several years. In 1956 and 1957 Wilton worked at Taconite Harbor in Two Harbors and worked at various construction locations. He worked for Anderson Construction in 1958 and began employment with Fosse Transport of Rothsay in 1964. In 1974 he began employment with Dieseth Specialty of Dalton and retired in 1989. Wilton was an active member of the Battle Lake VFW and served as Post Commander. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and bowling.
- He is survived by his wife, Marian of Battle Lake, eight children: Dean (Patricia) Godel of Grand Forks, Karen (Randy) Johnson of St. Paul, Lowell (Judy) Godel of Blaine, Laurel (Dawn) Godel of Fergus Falls, Patsy (Wayne) Nelson of Clitherall, Gary (Susan) Godel of Lester Prairie, Richard (Denise) Godel of Franklin, Tenn., and Lewis Godel of St. Paul; 25 grandchildren: Cory, Nicole, Jason, Buddy, Michelle, Phillip, Brian, Eric, Amanda, Pamela, Jennifer, Benjamin, Travis, Nathaniel, Sara, Timothy, Stephanie, Zachary, Christine, Danielle, Grant, Stephen, Hannah, Natalie, and Allyson. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren: Marcus, Tristin, Chase, Kendall, Seth, Devin, Falon, and Brody; his mother-in-law, Bessie Gearhart of Battle Lake; six brothers: Howard (Juel) Godel of Fergus Falls, Myron (Shirley) Godel of Kennewick, Wash., Charles (Beverly) Godel of Elbow Lake, Edwin (Barbara) Godel of Alma, Wis., Irvin (Darlene) Godel of Glencoe, and Homer (Deloris) Godel of Moorhead; and many nieces and nephews.
- He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Godel.
- Visitation: Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the church.
- Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake

- Burial: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, with military honors by Battle Lake Veteran's Organization
