- Bio: NEWMAN GROVE — Services for Lorraine W. Johnson, 89, of Newman Grove will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery.
- Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Newman Grove Memorial Funeral Home.
She died Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Memorials may be made to the new Newman Grove Medical Clinic or the Newman Grove Fire and Rescue.
1927-2017
- Lorraine Wilma Johnson was born May 22, 1927, in Newman Grove, the daughter of Leonard and Ethel Mary (North) Gabrielson. She graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1945.
In April 1946, she married Harlan “Bouncer” Johnson. They farmed north of town on the Johnson homestead until 2006 when they moved to town.
Lorraine enjoyed being a farm wife. She also enjoyed working with her beautiful flower gardens and hosting her church’s sewing group. She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove and made her reservation for a place in heaven in the early 1980s.
She is survived by her children: Mary Tisthammer of Newman Grove, Connie Gompert of Verdigre, Eric Jacobs of Bokielia, Fla., Jeff (Teri) Johnson of York and Tony Jacobs of Boulder, Colo.; her sister, Evelyn Turabian of Brighton, Colo.; and her brother, Leonard Gabrielson of Santa Clarita, Calif.; as well as nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Harlan in 2008, her parents and a son-in-law, Terry Gompert.
