- Bio: Ruth Christiansen is Bride of Harold Stearns September 4Church Ceremony at GraettingerThe marriage of Miss Ruth Christiansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Christiansen of Graettinger and Harold Stearns of Estherville took place Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Norwegian Lutheran church in Graettinger. Rev. S.O. Sande of Fenton, formerly of Graettinger, read the single ring ceremony.The wedding march from "Lohengrin" was played on the piano by Mrs. Earl Gerdevan of Dickens as the bridal party took their places before the altar. Mrs. Gerdevan, a recent bride, is the former Fern Christiansen. "I Love You Truly" was the nuptial selection sung by Mrs. Melvin Christiansen, Terril.The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a pink net floor length dress over satin and a satin bolero jacket. She carried a bouquet of pink gladioli and roses. Mrs. Taylor Sunde of Estherville as matron of honor and Mrs. Harry Probst, Terril, sisters of the bride, were her attendants. Mrs. Sunde wore a blue taffeta floor length gown, while Mrs. Probst was attired in pale pink organdie. Both wore corsages of roses and gladioli.Robert Stearns of Freemont, Nebr., son of the bridegroom and Arnold Christiansen of Terril, a brother of the bride, attended the bridegroom.Flower girls were two nieces of the bride, Doris and Joyce Christiansen of Terril. They wore dresses of blue and pink organdie and carried baskets of pink roses.A reception at the home of the bride's parents in Graettinger was held following the ceremony. Thirty relatives of the newly-married couple were guests.Mr. and Mrs. Stearns will live in Estherville where the former is employed as an engineer on the Rock Island Railway. She received her education in Graettinger schools and married George H. Stearns in Estherville where Mr. Stearns was an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad for 49 years.Mrs. Stearns was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.She is survived by one son, James Stearns, Estherville; one stepson, Robert W. Stearns, Long Beach, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Carl (Ruth) VanHoben, Whitefish, Mont.; two adopted sons, Robert H. Stearns, Long Beach, Calif., and Thomas Stearns, Lynn, Mass.; and four grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one son.
