Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Olney Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Sign the on line condolences book on www.burnsmortuary.com Earl was born June 15, 1925, in Spokane, Washington, to Lawrence Chapman and Besie (Anderson) Chapman. He lived in Spokane, North Dakota, Tri-Cities, Oklahoma, and Pilot Rock. He was married to Bea Chapman for 61 years. He joined the Navy when he was 17 during World War II. He served on the Solomon Islands and Saipan Islands. After the war, he was a fireman at Hanford. He did farm work and was a millwright at Fiberboard Mill. He was a janitor for the Pilot Rock School District. He was the Lion of the year for years 1987, 1989, 1992 and 2000. He received the Lion’s President Award in 1988. He received the Lion’s Outstanding Service Award in 1994. He received Pilot Rock’s First Citizen Award in 1989. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his brother, Dale Chapman of Pilot Rock; one grandson, Kelly Quinn of Pendleton; and two nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Bea; daughter, Earlene Decker; and son, Robert Chapman.
