    • Marvin Bergstad, 64, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in his home.
    • Marvin Du Wayne Bergstad was born February 10, 1944, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Aaenson) Bergstad in San Francisco, CA. He was raised and educated in Granville, ND. He graduated from Granville High School in 1963.
    • Marvin enlisted in the United States Army August 8, 1963. He proudly served his country and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged July 26, 1965.
    • Marvin was once married to Charlene Johnson. From this union, four daughters were born.
    • Marvin was in the transportation industry the majority of his life. He was a long distance professional truck driver in North Dakota, Illinois, Alabama, and California. He loved to travel and see the country he was proud of. While in California, he drove for the country band, the California Cowboys. Also, he drove for Northland Bus in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Upon his return to North Dakota, he returned to Northland Bus to drive for Surrey Public Schools and many charters for sports teams and the Hostfest. He had a great fondness for the kids he drove to and from school.
    • He was a member of Granville American Legion Post #155, where he served as past Post Commander. He had also been a member of the Turkey Federation since 2003, serving as conservation chairman. He received many accolades as a volunteer including volunteer of the year in 2005. He coached Little League baseball in Granville in the late 1960s.
    • Marvin loved his volunteer work because he had great enjoyment being around people and giving back to the community he was apart of. He was a sports enthusiast and played and lettered in basketball and baseball at Granville High School and went to North Dakota Boys State. Also, he was a light-hearted person and loved to joke around. He adored his family and especially his grandchildren.
    • Surviving family includes: daughters, Renae Bergstad, Minot, Sheila (John) Kabanuk, Kernersville, NC, and Kristy (Jeff) Morgan, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Alycia Bergstad, and Daniel and Jorn Kabanuk; brothers, Jon Bergstad, Mandan, Jerome (Dolores) Bergstad, Waco, TX, and Dennis (Edna) Bergstad, Minot; sisters, Jean D'Aogstino (Ellis "Bud" Powers), Gatesville, TX, and Cora Mae Shipman, Granville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
    • Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Bergstad; and an infant daughter, Sherry.
    • Funeral: Monday, March 17, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville.
    • Interment: Granville Community Cemetery, Granville, ND.
    • Visitation: Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
    • Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
