- Bio: Contributed by pMcP - John Vigdal was born in Chickasaw county, Iowa, the son of John and Anna (Wickman) Vigdal. His father was born in Norway but in early life came to America and settled in Iowa. He was an engineer in the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway for several years and helped to construct the road as far west as Algona. He afterward engaged in farming in Chickasaw county and there passed away in 1888. It was in 1906 that John bought his present property, which comprises 80 acres on section 23, Iowa Lake township. The improvements upon the place compare favorably with those found on neighboring farms.On Feb. 27, 1895, Mr. Vigdal married Miss Martha Lubka, daughter of John and Matilda (Kain) Lubkey/Lubka. They became the parents of seven children:1. Laura M., b. 1895, wed Selmer E. Voldahl in 1917,2. Emma Elizabeth, b. 15 Dec. 1896, wed Jonas Broland in 1915,3. John Ernest, b. 16 Aug. 1898, wed Anna F. Helmers on 30 Jan 1924,4. Hazel A., b. 25 May 1900, wed Herman Askeland in 1921,5. Myrtle M., b. 15 Nov. 1902,6. Roscoe Harry, b. 27 Apr. 1904,7. Martha A. His wife died in April, 1907, and in July, 1908, Mr. Vigdal wedded Miss Ida Lubka, a sister of his first wife, who was born in Illinois. To the second union have been born three children:8. Theodore Oliver, b. 27 July 1908.9. Ida B., b. 06 May 1910,10. Willie W.11. Harold Lubka, b. 29 March 1917.Mr. Vigdal is now serving his second term as township trustee and has also held the office of constable. Furthermore, he has been elected as a school director.
