- Bio: Funeral services for Janet M. Schlender, 74, of Madison will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Barry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at Resseguie Funeral Home.
- She died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Faith Regional Health Services.
- Janet M. Schlender was born on August 22, 1937 the daughter of Teman and Tillie (Huseby) Thompson of Newman Grove and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Newman Grove. She graduated from Neman Grove High School with the class of 1955. She married Eugene Schlender on October 30 1955. The couple farmed on the Schlender Homestead where she was still residing. Since 1984 she has been operating a day care from her home until the fall of 2011 due to her health.
- She enjoyed her family, visiting with her neighbors and friends, going to garage sales, talking about her day care children, and adding to her prized salt and pepper collection.
- Janet is survived by her daughter Julie and her husband Steve Freese of Norfolk, one son Roger Schlender of Madison, one grandson Jesse Meyer of Yankton, two brothers Merlin and Eleanor Thompson of Vancouver, WA, and Jerome and Doris Thompson of Warwick, RI, two sisters Clarice Larsen of Seattle, WA, and Eleanor and Mike Weed of Columbus.
- She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene in 1973, one son Lee, one sister Ida Schantell and three brothers, Harold Thompson, Tilman Thompson, and Earl Thompson.
