- Bio: Alan Spooner, 87, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, of natural causes in a Minot nursing home.
- Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Noonan, with Ethyl Mae Nelson AIM officiating. Burial followed in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
- Alan was born in Noonan on Sept. 26, 1925, to Albert and Rose (Hilborn) Spooner. He lived and worked the majority of his life in the Noonan area.
- He married Ethel Nygaard on Oct. 6, 1946, in Plentywood, MT. Together they farmed and raised a family. In addition to farming, Alan also worked many years for Baukol-Noonan coal mine.
- Alan was active in many aspects of community life. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Noonan. He served on church council, Cenex board, FU Credit Union board, Divide County school board and was a member of many local organizations including Lions and the Moose Lodge. He also served as president of the Divide County Historical Society for many years.
- After retiring from farming, Alan and Ethel moved to Minot in 1994. In 2008, they moved to The View, an assisted living facility in Minot.
- The things Alan enjoyed most were his family, traveling with his wife, woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing and old tractors, steam engines and machinery.
- He is survived by: his wife, Ethel; daughter, Donna Hegle, Bismarck; sons, Duane and Kristie, Tappen, Mark and Lori, Noonan, Albert and May, Minneapolis, and Todd, Crosby; grandchildren, Zanthia Price, Ben Hegle, Joshua Spooner, Andrea Sinclair, Eric Spooner, William Spooner, Adam Spooner, Kayla Spooner, Alex Spooner, Jordan Spooner; five great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Norman Fagerbakke. Other family includes many brothers and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
- He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith; and son-in-law, Ken Hegle.
