    • Bio: Frances Arvilla (Askvig) Lee, 93, Minot and formerly of rural Kenmare, died at the Trinity Nursing Home on Friday, August 30th, 2013.Frances was born, April 13, 1920 on a farm near Carpio, N.D., to Ole and Ella (Johnson) Askvig. Growing up the eldest of 9, she helped care for her siblings, always enjoyed music, playing the clarinet and singing in small groups and choirs at school and church. She graduated from Carpio High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Oliver Lee of Hartland on October 6, 1940 in Minot. They lived at Harvey for a short time before moving to the Hartland area, where they began farming in Ree Township, while living in Carpio.Their children, Darwin, Elda, and Dale were born before they moved to their lifelong family farm north of Kenmare, and Marcia was born thereafter. Their life was spent raising their children and farming small grains in Denmark Township. They retired in 1986 and moved to Minot. In 1969, Fran and Oliver began wintering in Mesa, Az. and continued to do so until 2009. Frances and Oliver celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary in the fall of 2012.Fran lived life to the fullest, enjoying many activities, with family being the center of her life. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. She was formerly an active member of the Carpio Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran and Nazareth Lutheran Churches of Kenmare being involved with teaching Sunday School and being a Sunday School Superintendent, Luther League Supervisor, serving on several committees, and singing in small groups and choir in the churches. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Minot and Kenmare. She enjoyed many spectator sports, motorcycle and snowmobile rides, and camping with family and friends. In Arizona, she enjoyed ceramics, quilting, water aerobics, card playing and riding bicycle. As a homemaker, she was a wonderful cook, baker, gardener, seamstress and loved entertaining family and friends.Frances' loving family includes, sons Darwin (Sharon) Lee, Westhope, Dale Lee (Connie Nelson), Witchita, KS., daughters Elda (Gary) Sorenson, Mesa, Az., and Marcia (Brad) Robertson, Bottineau, ND. ; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, brothers Lloyd (Ora), Minot, Dick (Darlene), Kalispell, MT., and Al (Lois), Apple Valley, MN, sister Dorothy Byrd, Columbia Falls, MT and several nieces and nephews.Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oliver (December 1, 2012), grandson Chris Sorenson, brothers George, Ole, Jerry, and Donald Askvig, and sister Della Nelson.Celebration of the Life of Frances Lee: Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.Family Service: Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church.Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, MinotVisitation: Monday, September 2, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.Memorials: Memorials are preferred to the Bethany Lutheran Church Technology Fund or Metigoshe Ministries.Source: Thomas Family Funeral Home
