- Bio: Joan M. KIRKWOOD, 76, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin died Monday, June 7, 2010 at home with her family by her side. Joan was diagnosed 1 year ago with biliary cancer and continued to live every moment seeing the beauty in everything and everyone. She was born in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin on March 11, 1934, to Harry and Ragna (Toft) Sandve. She graduated from Barron High School in 1952 and then attended Eau Claire School of Cosmotology. Joan married Robert J. Kirkwood on May 25, 1953, at First Lutheran Church in Barron. Joan worked at Ellie Solom's Beauty Shop in Barron, Honey Johnson's Beauty Shop in Chetek, Clumpner's Jewelers, the Farmer Store Co., Sears, and alongside her husband for 16 years at Kirkwood's IGA. Joan was a member of First Lutheran Church, Barron, Bethany Church, Rice Lake, Colfax Lutheran, Colfax, and most recently Grace Lutheran in Eau Claire. Joan had many interests which included traveling, cooking, watching birds, collecting cookbooks, and a passionate love of music. She loved her winters in Florida with Bob. Joan expressed her love for her family and friends with her beautiful smile, welcoming home, and giving nature. Her family was her greatest joy in life. Her kindness, gentleness, and selflessness touched many. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband Bob of 57 years, Joan is survived by her three daughters; Pat Kirkwood of Amery, WI; Jane (Tom) Kurschner, and Karen (Bard) Hoff both of Elk Mound, WI; 6 grandchildren, Neal (Jessica) Kurschner, Sarah (Jeremy) Baldwin, Julie (Spencer) Nelson, Jonathan, Benjamin, and Nathaniel Hoff,; five great-grandchildren, Ava and Lucas Nelson, Carter and Kylie Baldwin, and Caleb Kurschner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Donald Sandve and Jim Sandve, and one sister, Karen Jespersen.
- Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in Barron with Pastor David Irgens of Grace Lutheran in Eau Claire and Pastor Lowell Bolstad of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron. Friends my call from 4-7 pm on Thursday at Rausch & Steel Funeral Home in Barron and again one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
