Bio: Iola Register, 6 June 1945, Wed, Page 1Mrs Lena Brown died this morning at St. John's hospital following a brief illness. She was 73 years old. Mrs Brown was born in Stavanger, Norway. When she was 18 years old she came to the United States with her parents. The family first settled in Minnesota, later moving to Iowa. In 1898 they came to Allen county. Mr and Mrs Brown lived on a farm about two and half miles north of Iola until 1905 when they moved into town. Mr. Brown died about two years later.In 1918 Mrs Brown was elected as Register of Deeds for the county and served three terms in that capacity. She was a member of the First Methodist church and the Eastern Star and was active in both organizations. She made her home at 218 So. Cottonwood.She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Floyd Smith, Iola and Mrs Anita Benson, Los Angeles, Calif.; a son M. L. Brown, Humboldt, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.Funeral services will be by the Rev C. E. Sisney at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Waugh Funeral home.
