- FOREST CITY - Altha Buland, 94, formerly of Forest City, residing at the IOOF Home in Mason City, died Thursday (April 26, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
- The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
- Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
- Altha Violet Buland was born in Stokesbury, Mo., on April 3, 1907, the daughter of Charles and Viola (Parr) Whiton. She was one of nine children, having five sisters and three brothers.
- She married Lester Buland in August 1925 in Chicago, Ill. She was a very hard-working woman. She worked at the Forest City Bakery for more than 20 years, retiring at the age of 80.
- She will be remembered most for being a hard-working woman, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being an aunt and was very fond of her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her entire family.
- Altha is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Lunstrum, of Mason City; a son and his wife, Robert and Paula Buland, of Arizona; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a daughter-in-law.
- She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; an infant daughter; a son, Lester Wayne; a grandson, five sisters, three brothers and a son-in-law.
