- Bio: Virginia Louise Peterson, 69, of Wakonda, SD, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
- Virginia was born on February 27, 1946 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of George H. and Adelaide (Huse) Wetmore. The family lived in Jefferson, SD at that time, later moving to Meckling, SD and Center Point near Viborg, SD.
- She was a 1964 Graduate at East High School in Sioux City, Iowa. She also attended the University of South Dakota.
- She married Sterling Peterson on May 9, 1966 at Turkey Valley Baptist Church, Viborg, SD. Sterling and Virginia farmed hand in hand for 48 years. She was a loving mother to their three children; Paul, Robert and Rebecca and adored by eight grandchildren.
- Virginia was a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church of rural Vermillion, SD. She was a member of the choir and had an exceptionally beautiful voice. She was an avid reader, game player and lover of nature and birds. She had a gift for hospitality. She was a truly special person with a great faith, and a generous, joyful, and beautiful spirit.
- She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Sterling of Wakonda; her three children, Paul (Julie) Peterson of Sturgis, SD, Robert (Julie) Peterson of Brunswick, GA, and Rebecca (Jay) Skroch of Sioux Falls, SD; her eight grandchildren, Eli, Isabel, and Faith Peterson all of Brunswick, GA, Blair Peterson of Sturgis, SD, Elizabeth, Hannah, Priscilla, and Benjamin Skroch all of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Tanck of Kansas City, MO and Patricia (Robert) Arnold of Sioux City, IA.
- She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Adelaide Wetmore; and her siblings, James Wetmore and Joanne Bell.
