- Bio: Ellen was born on July 30, 1926 in Rhue Dunbartenshire , Scotland. She spent her early years in Glasgow, Scotland. Ellen graduated as a registered nurse and midwife from the Western Infirmary and the Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland. In September of 1954, Ellen (along with her friend, Betty Anderson) arrived in Canada to pursue their careers. They worked in Collingwood and Hamilton, Ontario for approximately one year before coming to Frontier, Saskatchewan in October 1955. Ellen worked at the Frontier Municipal Hospital for five years. She married Ralph Akre of Frontier on June 1, 1957. They lived on the farm and raised their family until 1987, when they moved back to Frontier. Ellen was a member of the South Trail Ladies Auxiliary and the Bethel Ladies Aid. Ellen’s life centered around caring for her husband and family. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Over the years Ellen traveled to Scotland with Betty several times to visit her family.
- Ellen was predeceased by her father Henry Sprott, her mother Margaret Sprott, her father and mother-in-law Lars and Ellen Akre and by her brothers-in-law Archie McLean and Erling Akre.
- She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Ralph Akre of Frontier, Saskatchewan; her daughter Joan Bennett (Blair) of Climax, Saskatchewan and their children Ryan Bennett (Angie) and great granddaughter Alyssa Bennett of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Carrie Bennett of Edmonton, Alberta and Kristin Bennett of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan; her sons Alan Akre and Robert Akre of Frontier, Saskatchewan; special friend Betty Anderson of Frontier, Saskatchewan; her sisters Betty McLean and Margaret (Sandy) Smith of Glasgow, Scotland; Annie MacKinnon (Archie) of Isle of Tiree, Scotland; her brother William Sprott (Elizabeth) of Maple Ridge, B.C.; her sister-in-law Myrtle Dawson (Barry) of Edmonton, Alberta as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
- Honorary pallbearers were Martin and Arlene Christensen, Clifford and Edna Thoring, John and Joyce Ham, Ted and Maryanne Olszewski, Albert and Yvonne Leden and Lloyd Bakkeli.
- Pallbearers were Duane Barsness, Joel Christensen, Pat Olszewski, Daryl Ham, Wendell Patzer and Michael Leden.
