- Bio: OREGONCPL 65 COAST ARTILLERYWORLD WAR 1Oct. 1949 Funeral of William Freeman Southward, 53, will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., Folsom chapel, with the Rev. S. Darlow Johnson, Methodist minister, officiating. Born in Eugene, Mr. Southard lived in the Hermiston-Umatilla area since 1919, and came here nine years ago. He served in several major engagements, as corporal in Battery C., 65th Coast Artillery, first world war. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. Surviving are his widow; a daughter Sherril Ray Southward, a brother and three sisters, C.V. Southward, Eugene; Mrs. Ethel Wheatley, Puyallup, Wash; Mrs. Epha Myers, Hermiston, and Miss Sarah Southward, Hermiston. Pallbearers will be W.P. Alexander, William A. George, I.A. Sherrow, G.B. Spencer, Carol Davison and Marvin L. Dick.
