- Bio: Chester M. Reff, 89, of Bemidji died Thursday, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls of injuries received in a car accident near there June 3, 1989. Funeral services were at St. Philip's Catholic Church. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
- Mr. Reff was born Dec. 3, 1899, in Frazee to George and Carrie Reff. He worked at a sawmill in Frazee until moving to Bemidji in the early 1920s. He married Maude Cooper Oct. 11, 1920. She died in 1970. On Sept. 19, 1971, he married Evelyn Peterson. He worked at a sawmill in Bemidji, then for the school district, retiring in 1965 as maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church.
- He was preceded in death by a son, Fredrick; a daughter, Constance; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.
- He is survived by his wife; three sons, Robert of Fergus Falls, John of Hallock and George of Anoka; a step-daughter, Darlene (Jim) Hulteen of Thief River Falls; two step-sons, Odney Hegrenes of Brooklyn Park and Bruce Hegrenes of Duluth; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Genevieve Wilson of Detroit Lakes.
