- Bio: Twyla Fay Hellickson, 72, of Spring Valley, was welcomed home into the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015. She left this earth after a two-year battle with cancer, at home surrounded by her loving family. Her celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. David Lieder officiating.
Twyla Fay Ramaker was born on May 16, 1943, in Spring Valley, to Winfield and Valoy (Frankson) Ramaker. She grew up in rural Spring Valley, attended Spring Valley schools, and graduated in 1961. After graduating, she was employed by Local Readers Service in Decatur, Ill., and traveled nationwide as a sales rep for three years. Twyla married Roger Hellickson in 1964. They made their home in Spring Valley, where they raised their family and lived for a number of years. They were later divorced.
Twyla was a homemaker and an entrepreneur, and was self-employed for most of her working career. She was also co-owner of the Knotting Corner in Spring Valley. Twyla loved creating floral arrangements and wall designs. She also specialized in capturing special events such as weddings and anniversaries as a videographer. She was an active longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, teaching Sunday school and music. She belonged to "Friends over 50" in Spring Valley. Twyla was a resident at Hillside Homes in Spring Valley, where she helped facilitate a fundraiser for the new sun shelter there. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her classmates through the years and loved visiting with friends. She loved time spent with her large family, her children and their families, and especially her grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly.
- Twyla is survived by a daughter and two sons, Rusty (Kelly) of Spring Valley, Randy (Jodi) of Rochester, and Stacy (Frank) Harreld of Stewartville; seven grandchildren, Jesse Hellickson (Brianna Wolfgram), Ian Hellickson, Tanner Hellickson, Drew Hellickson, Blake Hellickson, Isaac and Madison Harreld and a great-grandson, Braxton Wolfgram; five sisters and seven brothers, Dianne (Steve) Bicknese of Wykoff, Mary Ann (Steven) Schultz of Spring Valley, Dean (Diane) Ramaker of Stewartville, Thomas (Lynette) Ramaker of Spring Valley, Steve Ramaker of Wykoff, Clair (Sheri) Ramaker of Preston, Donovan (Sheri) Ramaker of Stewartville, Richard (Margaret) Ramaker of Spring Valley, Gene (Jeanette) Ramaker of Spring Valley, Yvonne (Randy) Kraling of Spring Valley, Yvette (Jeff) Halvorson of Spring Valley, and Cris Ramaker of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters and two brothers, Linda Olson, Neil Ramaker, Willa Snyder and Mark Ramaker.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley. A private family burial and committal service will take place at Spring Valley Cemetery.
