- Bio: Darrell Edward Oppegaard 1931-1954 Darrell Oppegaard was born March 29, 1931, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Mrs. William Dupay (Irene Malloy) who now resides in Webster Township, and the late Omar Oppegaard. He had lived in the Webster Township since he was a young boy. He attended the Lonsdale School and Rosary school in Northfield. A Korean War veteran, he was discharged from service in December, 1953, after 3 1/2 years service. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Oppegaard who was employed in the Wilson & Company plant in Faribault, was returning to his room in Faribault after visiting with his family in Hazelwood. He was traveling alone headed south on 165 when he apparently lost control of his car. The vehicle skidded about 400 feet on the shoulder before rolling for a distance of 150 feet. The body of the victim, thrown from the car, was found on the highway 65 feet from the wreck. Darrell is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Michael Karrow( Darlene Oppegaard) of Faribault, Alice, Donna, Gail, Colleen and Joan all at home; three brothers, Pvt. Robert Broderick, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. William and Joseph at home.Northfield News26 October 1954
