    • Bio: Ethel Mortvedt, 94, Bismarck, died May 30, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Salvation Army Church in Bismarck with Captain Sally Sell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Ethel was born on February 17, 1920, in Bismarck, ND, to Erwin and Freda Meader. She married Reuben Joel Mortvedt on January 1, 1948. They celebrated the joy of the birth of their son, Melvin (August of 1949) and their daughter, Marlys (January of 1954). Ethel worked for many years at JC Penney Company in downtown Bismarck. Through the years, Ethel has also put in many volunteer hours at the Salvation Army in the Bismarck/Mandan area. The years that she was overseer of the candy making for the Home League's sale at the Capitol building were a true joy to Ethel and quite a highlight in her life. Ethel was a person who wrapped and mailed gifts for the Angel Tree ministry of the Salvation Army. She was also a bell ringer at Christmas time. She was the historian for the Bismarck/Mandan area Salvation Army. Ethel had a warm smile, a gentle hug, and a kind word for everyone. She was a servant and always ready to lend a helping hand. Ethel is survived by her son, Melvin (Virginia) Mortvedt of Lincoln, ND; her daughter, Marlys (Bob) Bohn of Toronto, SD; one granddaughter, Margaret (Bradley) Darnell of Chicago, IL, area; three grandsons, Kenneth Bohn of Minneapolis, MN, David (Melissa) Mortvedt of Bismarck, ND, and Michael (Kelly) Mortvedt of Minneapolis, MN; two great-grandsons, Mason and Carter Darnell of Chicago, IL, area; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reuben; three brothers, Ed, Paul, and Melvin; and three sisters, Lilly, Alice, and Florence.
