    • Bio: Margaret J. Warren A service will be held at St. Helena Catholic Church Saturday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. for Margaret Jessee Warren, who died of heart failure July 27 in St. Helena. Following the service a reception will be held at Meadowood Country Club. Mrs. Warren, 79, wife of the late James Cleveland Warren, was the daughter-in-law of former California governor and U.S. Chief Justice Earl Warren, and mother of a San Francisco Superior Court judge. Born in Sacramento to Bertram and Florence Jessee in 1921, she gained national prominence as a teenage tennis prodigy. Mrs. Warren earned a bachelor's degree from UC-Berkeley in 1943. That same year she married James Warren at St. Mary's Church in San Francisco. Her husband served in the Pacific with the Marine Third Division during World War II. Following the war, the couple moved to Piedmont where they lived until moving to Napa and the Lazy J Ranch in 1959. For 30 years Mrs. Warren oversaw her husband's St. Helena real estate firm, James Warren & Son, which specialized in vineyards and wineries. She and her husband were original partners in Freemark Abbey Winery and later Rutherford Hill Winery. She was also the founder of HeHaHo Vineyards of St. Helena and was an original investor in Napa Valley Bank as well as Napa National Bank. She served on the board of James Warren & Son for 12 years. She and her husband supported the founding of the Napa Valley Land Trust and were instrumental in getting the historic Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve passed by Napa County voters in 1967. She was a member of the St. Helena Ladies Luncheon Group, Meadowood Country Club, the Berkeley Tennis Club, the Upper Napa Valley Association, Ye Olde Square Dance Groupe and the California Alumni Association. She was also an ardent supporter of university athletics, and in 1989 established the Margaret Jessee Warren Tennis Scholarship for UC-Berkeley's women's tennis team. Mrs. Warren is survived by three sons, James of San Francisco, Jeffrey of St. Helena and John of Los Angeles; daughters-in-law, Cassandra, Cynthia and Emily; grandchildren Elisabeth, Jessee, Casey, Jeffrey Jr., Margaret Cody, Amanda, Lindsay, Andrew, Christ-opher and Landon. Memorial donations may be made to The Margaret Jessee Warren Tennis Scholarship Fund, c/o The UC-Berkeley Foundation, 2440 Bancroft Way, #4200, Berkeley CA 94720-4200, or to a charity of choice. Arrangements by Morrison Funeral Chapel.
