Born in Sacramento to Bertram and Florence Jessee in 1921, she gained national prominence as a teenage tennis prodigy. Mrs. Warren earned a bachelor's degree from UC-Berkeley in 1943. That same year she married James Warren at St. Mary's Church in San Francisco. Her husband served in the Pacific with the Marine Third Division during World War II. Following the war, the couple moved to Piedmont where they lived until moving to Napa and the Lazy J Ranch in 1959. She and her husband were original partners in Freemark Abbey Winery and later Rutherford Hill Winery. She was also the founder of HeHaHo Vineyards of St. Helena and was an original investor in Napa Valley Bank as well as Napa National Bank. She served on the board of James Warren & Son for 12 years. She and her husband supported the founding of the Napa Valley Land Trust and were instrumental in getting the historic Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve passed by Napa County voters in 1967. She was a member of the St. Helena Ladies Luncheon Group, Meadowood Country Club, the Berkeley Tennis Club, the Upper Napa Valley Association, Ye Olde Square Dance Groupe and the California Alumni Association. She was also an ardent supporter of university athletics, and in 1989 established the Margaret Jessee Warren Tennis Scholarship for UC-Berkeley's women's tennis team.
