- Jørgen "George" Thorsen was the son of Jørgen Thorson Mehus and Karina Andersdatter Skjørvested. He was born July 18, 1872 in Mehus, Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway.
- On the 1900 census records, George Thorsen and family were living in Rutland, LaSalle County, Illinois. He gave information that he arrived in the United States in 1887. He had been living in the United States 13 years and he was a naturalized citizen.
- On the 1910 census records, George Thorson and family were living in Roberts County, South Dakota. He gave information that he arrived in the United States in 1888 and he was a naturalized citizen.
- George Thorsen married Celia V. Erickson on August 24, 1899 in La Salle County, Illinois. Together they had five known children: Willis Franis Thorson, Cora Sedell Thorsen, Pearl Lucille Thorsen, Dorothy Belle Thorsen and Leo Harold Thorsen.
- In the Times Newspaper, Streator, Grundy County, Illinois, dated Friday, September 22, 1916, it was reported that George Thorsen, a farmer who lived south of Seneca, Illinois disappeared in a mysterious manner.
- Later, in the Times Newspaper, Streator, Illinois, Wednesday, September 27, 1916, it was reported that the missing farmer, George Thorsen, had been found in Chicago, staying with a friend by the last name of Jacobson, who lived at 455 Milwaukee Avenue. Two of his sons were going to Chicago to bring their father home.
- On the 1920 census, his wife, Celia Thorsen is living in Grundy County, Illinois and she is a widow. That does not necessarily mean that George had died. kit could also be that his wife ,from embarrassment of being left, preferred to call herself a widow.
