She returned to the midwest and worked at Fantle's Department Store in Sioux Falls, S.D. After a year, she moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where she was head bookkeeper at the Grand Forks Medical Clinic. Lois married Jack Sampson on January 15, 1950. Lois continued to work at the clinic until Jack finished school at the University of North Dakota. In 1954 they moved to Cavalier, N.D. They lived in Cavalier for three years, and then moved to Park Rapids, Minn. They only spent one year in Park Rapids, and then moved to Menomonie. The Sampson's first son, Jay, was born in 1955 in Cavalier; and second son, Bruce, was born in 1958 after they arrived in Menomonie.
- Lois was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She served as chairperson of the Priscilla Circle, helped with money counting on Monday mornings and entered data in the computers for the office staff. For a short period of time she served as part-time secretary in the church office.
