    • Mary Cleven (Fulcher) Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died on August 27, 2005, at Calvary Place, Winnipeg, MB. Mom was born February 9, 1917, and lived all of her early years in Brandon, MB. Following high school she worked for a few years in secretarial support positions. Mom married our Dad, Harald Cleven, in 1939 and they moved to Winnipeg. They both shared a great love for their Kingston Crescent home in Elm Park. Mom would often recall the gatherings of good friends and their families in our back yard and the many terrific Sunday afternoons on our boat on the Red River. Mom and Dad often sang duets at Canoe Club functions. In 1952 the Cleven family moved to Calgary, but following the tragic death of our Dad Harry in 1956, Mom and her children (Jim, Susan and Jeffrey) returned to Winnipeg in 1957. Mom spent the rest of her life being both Mother and Father. We will always remember Sunday dinners, special holidays and especially the heated discussions over world events, politics or personal opinions. Mom continued to preserve Dad's Norwegian heritage through food and other traditions. Her home was open to all. Over the years Mom volunteered at the United Church, YMCA, community clubs, the United Way, Marina Creations, the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, Meals on Wheels, Rotary's Inner Wheel and many others. She had such energy and creativity and she loved crafts, dress making, gardening, cross country skiing and singing. She was fun loving and always able to see the bright side of life; always putting others needs before her own. Mom was always studying something, at the age of 58 completed The Canadian Securities Course and also a small engine repair course at Red River College. Mary was predeceased by the love of her life Harry; her parents Margaret and Samuel Fulcher; all of her siblings, Grace, Victor, Adeline and Jack. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Rose Fulcher and Perry Cleven, both in B. C., and many nieces and nephews. Mary's life will be cherished by her son James and his daughters, Jacqueline Oltrop (Jason) and Catherine; daughter Susan Hoplock (Julian Benson) and her daughters, Jill Harley (Hugh) and Rebecca Merriman (Damien) ; son Jeffrey (Kimberely Sabad) and his daughters, Nola and Elizabeth. Mary also leaves her two great-granddaughters, Megan and Sarah Harley and Julian's children Michael, Lisa and Craig and their families. Our family wishes to thank all of the staff at Calvary Place. End of life care givers are a gift from God. They are angels disguised as nurses, aides and volunteers. The dignity, respect, gentle care and comfort given our Mother is something our family will never forget. You are all wonderful. Friends are invited to a memorial service in Mom's honour at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. Mom faced Parkinson's disease with strength and courage. Donations may be made to either the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4, or Calvary Place, 1325 Erin St., R3E 3R6.
