- Special to the Journal - Chester Grover Eckenroad, 84, a Reno resident for 16 years, died Tuesday at a Reno hospital A native of Ohio, he was born April 26, 1891.
- He worked as a conductor for the Western Pacific railroad out of Portola for 33 years. Previously, he lived in Oroville. He was a World War I veteran and was a member of the Oroville Post 1747 of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
- He is survived by his widow, Mable, of Reno, a son, Harold, of Portola; a daughter, Eleanor Hansen of Reno; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
- A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Community Methodist Church of Portola, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery in Portola. Manni Funeral Home of Portola is handling arrangements.
