- Bio: ABSAROKEE — Margaret Jean Early Fiveland, 90, of Absarokee, passed away early Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, 2011, at Stillwater Community Hospital in Columbus.
- She was born on June 16, 1921, at Luther, a daughter of Mark and Florance French Early. When she was only 2 years old her mother died, and Jean and her siblings were raised by their father and Grandmother and Grandfather French.
- Jean graduated from Carbon County High School in Red Lodge, and worked in the shipyards at Keyport, Wash., during World War II.
- On June 24, 1943, she married Thorvald E. Fiveland in Livingston. They ranched together on Volney Creek until retiring to Absarokee in 1978. Jean enjoyed quilting, and she loved making new friends and learning new skills. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a charter member of the T-Bone Cattlewomen.
- Jean was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Eleanor Johnson; granddaughter Mary Weast; sister Marjorie Collins Waite; and brothers Raymond and Donald Early.
- Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, followed by interment in St. Olaf Cemetery . Cremation has taken place. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge assisted with the arrangements.
- Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Fiveland of Lakewood, Wash., and Marilyn Weast of Red Lodge Creek and her son Marcus Weast of Anaheim, Calif.; one son Terrill (Donna) Fiveland and their sons John Fiveland of Beaverton, Ore. and Joe Fiveland of Billings; son-in-law Lee Johnson of Billings and children Rebecca (Jeremy) Neibauer (Hailey and Caleb) of Red Lodge, and Dale (Janel) Johnson (Madison, Emily and Brady) of Billings; sister-in-law Lorraine Early of Seattle, Wash; honorary daughter Effie Ford Siggins of Cody, Wyo.; and the Hash Family (Mary, Jack, Robert and Charlie).
- Memorials may be given to St. Olaf Church, c/o Terry Indreland, 2811 S. Gregory Drive, Billings, MT 59102; or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Absarokee, MT 59001.
