- Bio:
Violet Ann (Dix) Jensen was born February 24, 1929, in Thunder Hawk, SD, to Burkie Jacob Dix, Sr. and Della Mae (Fish) Dix. After completing grade school at White Deer, she attended McIntosh High School and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1946. After graduation, Violet taught grades 3 and 5 at Center School in Grand Valley and later grades 1-8 at Matkin School near McIntosh, both one-room schoolhouses. On Oct. 3, 1947, Violet was united in marriage to Lawrence Alfred Jensen. Soon after, they moved to the Dix homestead and farmed until moving to Lemmon, SD, in 1958 with their two children, Larry and Becky. While living in Lemmon, Lawrence and Violet were active members of Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, where Violet was a Sunday School teacher and was active in Circle and Presbyterian Women. During this time, Violet also worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell and later as a teller for the Bank of Lemmon. In 1987, Lawrence and Violet moved to Sioux Falls, SD, to be closer to their children and grandchildren, where they became members of the First Presbyterian Church. At that time, Violet began volunteering at Avera McKennan Hospital and served in this capacity for over 20 years. Violet was also a member of Bridge Club and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends in Lemmon and Sioux Falls. Violet was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2017.
