- Bio: Dayton ReviewSeptember 29, 1976Services held for Bertha BerglundFuneral services for Bertha Johanna Berglund, 77, Stratford, were held Tuesday, Sept. 28. Rev. Calvin Rossman conducted the 1:30 p.m. services at the Stratford Lutheran Church. Interment was in the South Marion Cemetery. Arrangements were completed by the Hanson-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, Stratford.Mrs. Berglund passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 25.Vocal selections were provided during the services by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Erickson accompanied by Mrs. Ardelle Phipps. Pall bearers were Gordon Woster, Carroll Larson, John Kane, Sterling Dahl, Bill Carter and Deane Berglund.She was born Jan. 21, 1899, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erick N. Challe, in Jewell. On June 27, 1928, she married Gustav Berglund at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.Mrs. Berglund was a 1917 graduate of the Jewell Public School. She attended the Jewell Lutheran College and received diplomas in music and education. She taught school for eight years in Hamilton County prior to her marriage.She was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church, LCW, and participated in other church activities.She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lois, in 1976, three brothers and four sisters.Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Olthoff of Stanhope, Mrs. Harold (Angeline) Applegate, Radcliffe, and Mrs. Irwin (Martha) Carlstedt of Tucson, Ariz., two sons, Ronald of Radcliffe and Harold of Stratford, a brother, Ed Challe of Jewell, and 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
