- Bio: In Memory of Elva Marie Nelson

- Elva Marie Nelson, 87, of Newman Grove, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, Nebraska. Elva Marie (Busteed) Broberg Nelson was born on November 13, 1929 at Newman Grove, to William C. and Ella May (Greenlee) Busteed.
- Elva was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. Elva attended Newman Grove Public Schools and graduated high school from there in 1947. Following her high school education she attended Wayne State Teachers College for one year.
- On June 19, 1949, Elva was united in marriage to Dean R. Broberg at the United Methodist Church in Newman Grove. Two children were born to this union, son, Randal,l and daughter, Deborah. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Newman Grove until 1972, when they moved to Norfolk, Nebraska. Dean passed away February 20, 1987. On November 12, 1988, Elva married Glenn D. Nelson at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Following their marriage they lived in Norfolk until 1990, when they moved to Newman Grove where she resided until her death.
- Elva taught school for one year before starting a 30 year career as a meat cutter. She first worked at the meat market in Newman Grove and then for Roman Packing Company in Norfolk, until she retired from there in 1990. In addition to cutting meat, Elva also sold Avon makeup products, and worked at both the Newman Grove Creamery and Sale Barn.
- Elva was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove and was very active in the church choir and as a music director. She enjoyed dancing, was strong in all aspects of life, and was known for working harder than any man throughout her life. She was also a very passionate sports fan for not only her grandchildren but for all of the local high school sports teams.
- Elva is survived by: her husband, Glenn D. Nelson; two children; four stepchildren; 21 grandchildren: 51 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Elliott Broberg and George E. Johnston; sisters-in-law: Vernelle Christensen and Barbara Hulscher; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
- She was preceded in death by: her parents; first husband, Dean; grandsons, Benjamin Broberg and Steven Zayas; one brother; and four sisters.
- Memorial services on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove. At the request of Elva, her body was donated to the Nebraska Anatomical Board to further medical education. Inurnment at Trinity Cemetery will take place at a later date.
