    • Bio: Edwin R. Burt, 36, DiesEdwin R. Burt, 36, partner in Estherville Typewriter Exchange, died at 6 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Burt had suffered from Leukemia for the past three years.A World War II captain in the Air Force and bomber pilot, Burt was active in the local American Legion Post as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps and of the Legion Polka band.He was graduated from Estherville High School in 1938 and from Junior College in 1940 where he was active in athletics and music. He was a regular on the Junior College basketball teams of 1938-39 and 1939-40.Burt was a member of First Methodist church.He was born Aug. 19, 1919 in Des Moines.Burt enlisted in the Air Force on Memorial Day, 1941, and received his primary training at Ontario, Calif., and later graduated from the advanced flying school at Stockton, Calif., where he received his wings as a second lieutenant.He was married Feb. 11, 1942 in the Methodist church at Las Vegas, Nev., to Janice Lilland. The couple had intended to be married in Estherville, but after Pearl Harbor all leaves were cancelled and Burt was unable to come to Estherville.Burt was promoted to first lieutenant and then captain and commanded a B-29 crew of the 58th Bombardment Win in the Far East. He was stationed on Tinian Island when the war ended. He was relieved from active duty in September, 1946, after more than five years service.After returning to Estherville, Burt was associated with his father in the Typewriter Exchange until the senior Burt's retirement and then was a partner with Lloyd Guge in the business.Survivors are his widow, his son, Roger Edwin; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Burt; his sister, Mrs. Stanley Larsen, and other relatives.Funeral arrangements have not been completed but friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this evening. Harrison G. Dawes at First Methodist Church.Friends may call at the church between noon and time of services at which time the body will lie in state and at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until noon tomorrow. The casket will not be open after the service.There will be a joint Veterans of Foreign War and American Legion military service at the church and at the interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. He was a member of both organizations.Pallbearers are Glenn Story, Merton Mason, Russell Smith, Harry Jones, Edgar Kleen and M. E. Huckaba.
