    • Richard J. "Knotty" Bouknight, 76, of 305 Brown St., Prosperity died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at his residence
    • Born January 14, 1934 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Henry Dewitt and Neva Coats Bouknight.
    • Mr. Bouknight retired from the US Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He served during both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War receiving the Navy Commendation with Combat V and the Bronze Star with Combat V. During his 24 plus years of service, he served on the USS Sculpin, USS Sunfish, USS Roncador, USS Nathaniel Green, and the USS Van Steubon. He was also a retired employee of SCE&G, a member of the Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 and a member of Wightman United Methodist Church.
    • He was a wildlife enthusiast and particularly loved fishing. He adored his family and his grandchildren were his greatest enjoyment; they were his heart.
    • Mr. Bouknight is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Wadholm Bouknight; daughters and son-in-law, Traci Bouknight of Prosperity and Neva B. and Cody Caldwell of Little Mountain; two grandchildren, Brent Justice Caldwell and Tori Caldwell; a sister, Jewel Garner of Prosperity and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jenny Mills.
    • Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Turner. Interment with military honors did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
    • The family was at the residence and did formally receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service.
    • Active Pallbearers were Mike Mills, Mack Garner, John Garner, Travis Chapman, Kenny Stuck, Christopher Mills and Wesley Boland.
    • Memorials are suggested to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606 or to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
