- Bio: DAVENPORT - Janet Christensen, 88, of Davenport, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Ridgecrest Health Center, Davenport. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at First Christian Church, 510 East 15th St., Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, of which she was a member.
- Mrs. Christensen was born in 1924 in Davenport, to Wallace and Gladys Barrie. She married Leslie Christensen October of 1944 and divorced after 30 years. She was a legal secretary and buyer for the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring in 1990. As a member of First Christian Church, she was active in Christian Women's Fellowship and Church Women United. She was also a member of Toast Mistresses, served on the State and National boards of the Legal Secretaries Association, and played with the CASI band on the clarinet. She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing, writing, reading, cooking, traveling, playing board games and pursuing her spirituality.
- Survivors include her daughters, Joan Christensen-Sund (Vernon Sund) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jane Makepeace of Atlanta, and Jennifer Christensen of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; sons, Leslie Christensen Jr. (Janet) of Cedar Falls, and Bruce Christensen of Davenport; grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Eppler, Brian A. (Robin) Sund, Amy Mahan, John (Jessica) Eisenbraun, Annie (Storm) Higgo, Brian J. Mahan, Andrea Haig (fiancé Joe Tacheny), Breanne Russell (fiancé Brad Harken), Joanna (Scott) Allen, Phillip Haig, and Kaleigh Russell (fiancé Nick Dirks); great-grandchildren, Mabel Beatrice Eppler, Parker Henry Sund, Audrey Janet Higgo, Nicholas James Eisenbraun, and Brooklyn Marie Harken; sister-in-law, Kay Barrie; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friend, Jim Shafer. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Wallace Barrie Jr., Clayton Barrie and Wallace Barrie, and a sister, Marion Jean Eichhorn.
