- Bio: Elfreda Mathilda Christina Smith, daughter of John Scheer and Barbara Lamp, was born April 29, 1898 in Mapleton, Iowa. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed March 31, 1912.She married Howard Smith on May 5, 1920, they made their home in Mapleton, Iowa, except for a short time when they lived in Nebraska and South Dakota. Elfreda and Howard worked for Suiter Hatchery and Fairmount Poultry Company for many years.Elfreda Smith died Friday, January 10, 1986, in the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa, after a brief illness, having reached the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 11 days.She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Women.Survivors include her two beloved daughters; Mrs. Richmond (Dorothy) Hutchins of Ovid, New York and Mrs. Urban (Evelyn) Badenhop of Ida Grove; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.She was preceeded in death by her parents, brother, and sister.Services were held on January 13, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Mathew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Leonard Gebhardt. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa.Published in the Mapleton Press on January 16,1986
