- Bio: Ada F. Oakland, a resident of Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, at the age of 90.Ada Floraine Rasmussen was born on January 29, 1922, to Chris O. Rasmussen and Carrie E. (Larsen) Rasmussen in Viborg SD. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1939 and earned a two-year teaching degree from Sioux Falls College in 1941. She taught elementary school in Parker, Beresford, Gary and Viborg prior to her marriage.On June 12, 1947, she married James M. Oakland of Centerville. They lived and farmed in the Centerville-Viborg area until James' death on February 4, 2002. Ada then moved to Sioux Falls to be near her children.Ada and James were the parents of three children. Ada was a wonderful cook and baker; her talents were enjoyed by the extended Rasmussen and Oakland families. She served her Lord as an organist and pianist for 55 years at the United Methodist Church and Bethany Lutheran Church in Viborg, and Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. She played for over two hundred weddings, funerals, and special occasions, as well as weekly services.Ada is also survived by three brothers and their wives, a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, brothers Earl and Ray, and sisters-in-law Iona and Jan.Funeral services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls on Monday, July 16, at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Tim Lemme officiating. Pallbearers will be Ada's five grandchildren and two grandchildren-in-law. Burial will be at Holland Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM.
