- Bio: Robert Edward Palmer, Sr
Service for Robert Edward Palmer will be held Friday, September 11th at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Revs. Donald Hefta, and Aaron Kotila officiating. Burial with military honors to follow at the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Bob was born on Dec. 6, 1933, on the family farm north of El Reno. He graduated from El Reno High School in 1952 where he played basketball coached by Jenks Simmons. He received a scholarship to Cameron University, where he also played basketball, and in 1970 received a Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern State University. From 1954 to 1956 he served in the U. S. Army First Airborne as a paratrooper and then in 1983 he retired from the Federal Correctional Institution as the supervisor of recreation.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of the American Legion. An avid OSU fan, he enjoyed sports, woodworking, and camping, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
On June 18, 1960, Bob married Sharon Sue Gustafson. They celebrated their 60th anniversary before his death. Sharon survives him.
He is also survived by son, Robert Edward Palmer, Jr. and wife, Lori, of Stillwater; daughter, Deborah Sue Palmer of El Reno; son, David Alan Palmer and wife, Dana, of Warr Acres; grandchildren and spouses, Josh and Jamie Burkhead, Bryce and Stephanie Burkhead, Colin Palmer, Whitney Burkhead, Jordan Palmer and Emily Palmer; and great-grandchildren, Maddie and Colton Burkhead. Many nieces and nephews.
His parents, Lloyd Earnest and Helen (Baggs) Palmer; brothers, Lloyd Ira Palmer and James C. "J.C." Palmer; preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

Services for Robert Edward Palmer will be 1 p.m. Friday (Sept. 11) at the Trinity Lutheran Church under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
- A lifelong resident of El Reno, Mr. Palmer died Sept. 3 at Bellevue Health & Rehabilitation in Oklahoma City.
