    • Frances J. Costigan, 105, of Moline, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Moline, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. until the service. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the American Cancer Society. Frances was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Lee, Ill., the daughter of Swan and Sarah Book Ostewig. She married Dr. Clarence Costigan on Nov. 26, 1936, at Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1989. Frances graduated from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago. She received her bachelor's degree in science from Augustana College, Rock Island. Frances worked at the former Green River Munitions Factory, in Dixon, Ill., as a nurse during World War II, while Clarence served as a physician in Iran. The center of Frances' life was her devotion to her husband, Clarence, family and friends. She offered her gift of love and friendship widely, rarely forgetting a birthday, a Christmas present or a phone call to a sick friend just to say hello. She radiated throughout her life kindness, generosity and a nonjudgmental approach. Frances was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline, Altar and Rosary Society, King's Daughters and Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary, Rock Island, and was a former member of Short Hills County Club. Frances and Clarence were avid travelers who enjoying exploring remote corners of the world. She was a loving wife and aunt who always had time to prepare a special dinner for family gatherings. She was an inspiration and a role model for all she met. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Don Broman, Venice, Fla., Dianne Eppler, Norfolk, Va., Anne Saner, Boulder, Colo., and Anne Steckel, Moline. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joy Hester and Lillian Broman.
